NIH Multi-Site

  • Effective January 25, 2018, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) mandated all domestic sites of NIH-funded multi-site studies, where each site conducts the same protocol involving non-exempt human subjects research, use a single IRB (sIRB). This may be either an independent IRB, or the institutional IRB of one of the participating sites.
  • If Georgia State University is designated as the sIRB on a NIH grant, the IRB review will be conducted by Advarra d/b/a Chesapeake Research Review Inc. (Advarra).
  • The Principal Investigator (PI) has the responsibility of submitting the protocol to Advarra for IRB review. The IRB Handbook is available for investigators.

The contact person for IRB submissions at Advarra is:

Michelle Esposito, Director of Institutional Services
mesposito@chesapeakeirb.com
Office: 386-222-3035
Cell: 386-804-8006

Once the study is approved by Advarra, the PI should submit the NIH Multi-site Tracking form in iRIS.
