Transgenic and Gene Targeting Core

Welcome to the Transgenic and Gene Targeting Core (TGT Core) at Georgia State University. The newly established TGT Core is a research resource for investigators at Georgia State to produce genetically engineered animal models.

Services

Production of transgenic rodents

This service is used to create transgenic rodents via two methods:

  • Microinjection of DNA constructs into the pronucleus of single-cell embryos
  • Microinjection of lentiviruses into perivitelline space of single-cell embryos

Fee: $1,800 per injection

To request services, please fill out the DNA Pronuclear Microinjection Service Agreement and Form.  Although a majority of the form may be filled out electronically, you must ultimately print the form to sign it.  Submit the completed and signed form to Core Director Dr. Chengliu Jin.  Alternatively, you may contact Dr. Jin to schedule a consultation.

Production of gene-targeted mice

This service is used to create gene-targeted (knockout or knockin) mice via two methods:

  • Blastocyst microinjection of embryonic stem (ES) cells
  • Zinc Finger Nuclease Technology: Microinjection of ZFN in mRNA form into the cytoplasm or ZFN in plasmid form into the nucleus

Fee: $1,800 per injection, plus ES cell recovery and expansion fee on an hourly basis

To request services, please fill out the ES Cell Microinjection Service Agreement and Form.  Although a majority of the form may be filled out electronically, you must ultimately print the form to sign it.  Submit the completed and signed form to Core Director Dr. Chengliu Jin.  Alternatively, you may contact Dr. Jin to schedule a consultation.

Embryo rederivation

This service is used to rederive animals via embryo transfer:

  • Rederivation from frozen embryos to recover the frozen stocks or to import animal strains

Fee: $600 per strain

  • Rederivation from pathogen infected strains to eradicate unwanted infectious agents which may confound one’s animal research data

Fee: $1,000 per strain
