Compliance and Safety Training

All training will take place from 10 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday in room G88 of Dahlberg Hall, located on the southwest corner of the ground floor. 

What training do I need and how do I register for it?

To register for GSU-prescribed trainings, sign up  online. You can also submit this Training Request Form via email to eprograms@gsu.edu.
You are responsible for keeping track of your training. To keep track of training completions, a Safety Training Completion Form is available.

As a faculty, staff, student, post-doctoral, or visiting at Georgia State University, you are required to complete the following:

Note: These trainings must be renewed annually with refresher training. It is your responsibility to maintain current training records. These trainings must be completed within 6 months of employment

 

In addition to the training courses listed above, you must also take the following (depending on your circumstances):

If you will be working with or visiting science laboratory that contains chemicals, you are required to complete the following before being permitted to enter these laboratories:

  • Laboratory Safety and Hazardous Waste Training.

The training is required by law according to 40 CFR § 260-280.

Note: The initial  training course can be taken online via Desire2Learn or in a classroom and must be renewed annually with an online refresher training. If you are interested in coming to the classroom session, register hereIt is your responsibility to maintain current training records. 

Chematix Training is recommended (Can be completed in a classroom setting or online)


If you will be working with or visiting art studios that contain chemicals, you are required to complete the following before being permitted to enter these laboratories:

  • The Arts Department Training

The training is required by law according to 40 CFR § 260-280.

Note: This training courses can be taken online and must be renewed annually with an online refresher training. It is your responsibility to maintain current training records.

Chematix Training is recommended (Can be completed in a classroom setting or online)


If you will be working with vertebrate and/or invertebrate animals, you are required to complete the following:

  • Species specific and general knowledge training in the AALAS Learning Library (Note: The AALAS Learning Library training must be renewed every three years. It is your responsibility to maintain current certification).
  • GSU’s Research Occupational Health and Safety Program
  • Attend an Animal Facility Orientation Meeting.
  • Provide GSU’s Office of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee with an annual report of what invertebrates are being used, the number of animals used annually, the type of procedures done on the invertebrates and where the animals are housed (Note: The annual report is due by March 31st of every year).

If you will be working in or visiting laboratories that contain radioactivity or lasers, you are required to complete the following before being permitted to enter these laboratories:

Note: The initial Radiation Safety training session must be completed in the classroom. This training must be renewed annually with a refresher training that can be completed online via Desire2Learn. It is your responsibility to maintain current training records.

  • GSU’s Radiation Safety Training

This training is required by law according to 10 CFR § 20


If you will be working in or visiting laboratories that contain biological materials (e.g. viruses, bacteria, DNA, etc.), you are required to complete the following before being permitted to enter these laboratories:

Note: The initial BioSafety training session must be completed in the classroom. This training must be renewed annually with a refresher training that can be completed online via Desire2Learn. It is your responsibility to maintain current training records.

  • GSU’s BioSafety Training
