FIND FUNDING
Pivot-RP accelerates the research process by providing access to the most comprehensive global source of funding opportunities, facilitating collaborator discovery, and offering insights and short-cuts to help research organizations win a larger share of available funding. This database allows you to create and save funding searches and email new funding opportunities from your saved searches to your GSU email inbox on a weekly basis. You can also search for potential expertise and collaborators using the database. Pivot-RP is currently available to all Georgia State faculty, staff, postdocs, and students with a Georgia State campus ID and password.
- PIVOT-RP Log-in (Select Georgia State University from the "Access Pivot-RP using your Institution's Credentials" dropdown menu)
- PIVOT YouTube Channel provides brief, easy-to-follow videos that walk you through using PIVOT features at your convenience.
- PIVOT Knowledge Center provides guidance to users and administrators about all of PIVOT's features.
If you have questions, you may reach out to Kelly McSwain in the Office of Research Development.
Limited submissions refer to funding opportunities that restrict the number of applications allowed from an institution or a unit within the institution for a specific deadline or within a given time period.
To apply for any funding opportunities categorized as a "limited submission" you must first contact the Office of Research Development ([email protected]) and obtain formal approval before you proceed with the application to ensure that we (Georgia State) do not submit more applications for the solicitation than the agency allows.
It is the PI’s responsibility to identify a limited submission competition from the sponsor’s program announcement or the sponsor and to notify URSA immediately of their interest in applying. Contact the Research Development Office at [email protected] for more information about limited submissions.
Notifying URSA of Intent to Apply for Limited Submissions
Anyone considering submitting a proposal to an external sponsor that limits the number of submissions from an institution for a given deadline MUST notify URSA as soon as possible. This notification applies also to any sponsor’s deadline for a requested Letter of Intent or pre-proposal.
Notification should consist of an email to [email protected] that includes the PI’s name, name of the grant competition, the sponsor's deadline the PI will submit, and a link to the program announcement (URL). If more notifications are received than there are proposal slots allowed, URSA will manage an internal competition for the allowed proposal slot(s).
Requests for a limited submission approval that is submitted fewer than 8 weeks prior to the sponsor’s deadline will be immediately approved assuming the slots are not already filled.
Internal Competitions for Limited Submissions
If there are more parties interested in a limited submission funding opportunity than there are proposal slots allowed by the sponsor, URSA will manage an internal competition to select internal candidate(s) for the limited slots. A notice with instructions about the internal competition will be sent ONLY to candidates who have identified their interest in an email to URSA. Interested candidates will be expected to provide the following information by an internal deadline to be set at the time of the competition:
- Cover Page: The cover page must include names of PI and co-PIs and their department or center affiliation, the sponsoring agency, a URL link to the funding announcement, an estimate of the total budget to be requested, whether costshare is required and, if so, how much (percent or amount)
- 1-3 page pre-proposal summary about the project including a paragraph about the potential impact of the project on the investigator’s career and Georgia State University.
- Updated CVs/biosketches for PI and all listed co-PI. NIH or NSF formatted bio-sketches are acceptable.
The review process for limited submission pre-proposals will depend on the number of pre-proposals submitted and the type of grant mechanism. Reviews are conducted by an ad hoc committee of peer reviewers (not within the applicant's department). The goal is to complete reviews and send out the final decision for an internal competition within five business days after the internal pre-proposal deadline.
If you have any questions, please contact the Research Development Office at [email protected].
